Duty Calls, epic mockery made of Call of Duty.

Oh Epic, why are you so…epic? In a remarkably original bit of PR, Epic Games (Gears of War, Unreal Tournament) have released a fully playable parody game “Duty Calls”, which mercilessly rips on Activision’s shooter franchise Call of Duty, to promote their upcoming title Bulletstorm.

Almost every aspect of CoD is flayed alive: the briefings, the ranking system, the cut scenes, right down to the bullets you fire which just go “boring” instead of the usual “bang”. Another memorable moment is when a paratrooper drops in a cut scene, commenting on the fact that you can’t shoot him and are forced to merely watch him land. “I will soon be landing… I have landed on the ground.”

I was grinning from ear to ear while watching the whole thing. I may not have found a word insulting enough to CoD yet, but I have certainly found a game. Rock on Epic.

Duty Calls is available free on PC, but doesn’t seem to be currently available on Xbox LIVE, despite a video of what appears to be an Xbox version. Oh well, at least there’s still the Bulletstorm demo. Duty Calls download link hereYouTube Video here

While we’re on the subject of Epic games, they also recently did a parodyof the Halo 3 “Believe” trailer for Bulletstorm, though this one is much kinder in nature and more of a homage than an actual dig. Still as tongue in cheek and just as funny.
